CENAA is launching a flagship project to assist Ukraine´s Security Sector Reform

Director of the Centre for European and North Atlantic Affairs (CENAA) Róbert Ondrejcsák and his colleagues (Beata Górka-Winter, Elemír Nečej, Oľga Gyárfášová) are visiting Kyiv within a framework of CENAA´s new flagship project with focus on assistance in Ukraine´s Security Sector Reform.

The aim of the project is to build capacities of Ukrainian institutions, both governmental (Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the presidential administration, as well as non-governmental (including think-tanks) in the field of security sector, strategic communication and European and Euro-Atlantic integration of our eastern neighbour.

In the first phase of the project there will be three week-long trainings in three Ukrainian cities (Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa). In the second phase, CENAA, together with its partners, will prepare a handbook on Security Sector Reform, as well as study visit and consultations for Ukrainian experts in Slovakia.

Ukrainian partner of the project are the Open Ukraine (foundation of the Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the National Institute for Strategic Studies (under the auspices of the President of Ukraine Peter Poroshenko).

The first training started in February, with opening speeches of Ms. Tereziya Yatsenyuk (Open Ukraine´s Head of Supervisory Board), Robert Ondrejcsák (CENAA´s Director), Vadym Prystaiko (Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine), Juraj Sivaček (Slovakia´s Ambassador to Ukraine), Oleksandr Lytvynenko (Deputy Head of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine), Yuriy Bereza and Andriy Teteruk (both members of Verkhovna Rada and commanders of Dnipro and Myrotvorets Battalions).

The project is carried out with the support of Official Development Assistance of the Slovak Republic (SLOVAKAID) provided by Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
